Everything about the city is unfamiliar, even based on the small handful of times she's been taken out of the palace into Rangard proper. The buildings look wrong. The people, she suspects, aren't even Ardrillian. Some of them look like shedim, like something out of fairy stories. The music is different. The smells are different. The only thing familiar about this place is that it's a large city, and that is at least some small comfort even if she can't see the towers of the palace anywhere on the horizon.
She hugs herself tight beneath the voluminous black robe she's wearing, too hot in this weather but at least it feels like some form of protection, obscuring all but her shaved head and pale neck. The collar is still there around her neck, the plain, thick circlet of heavy gold that marks her as one of the emperor's slaves. So they haven't released her. She's lost, or she's been stolen.
What should she do? If she's been stolen her captors are nowhere to be found. Either way she needs to find her way back. Every minute she's gone ensures her return will go that much worse for her.
She keeps her head low, eyes to the ground and her hands folded in the robe as she makes her way through the marketplace.
She looks like she's trying not to panic. Someone halp?
