Test Drive Meme | #29

TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:
→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
    → Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!
But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what start out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! Though it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market.

  5. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Please note, Wildcard options can also be what you can choose to do if you aren't yet comfortable in the Tu Shanshu setting, and would prefer a more 'dear-mun'-esque experience. Please specify in your post!

a; console network
[Look, she might be medieval, but she's not stupid. She can figure out how to work this thing. In fact, she's picked it up rather quickly with help from the welcome center, along with a few other...miscellaneous tidbits of information.]

I heard a rumor that a foreign force is paying us a visit within the month, under the pretense— [Please pay attention to how she stresses that word.] —of recapturing one of their own. One of their own who, as I understand it, attempted to stage a coup here not so long ago.

And we're...letting the Grand Justicar of the same order march a small army in here, with only her word she's not simply bringing reinforcements.

...Who gave them permission to do that? And why?

[She may not have an army or a title here, but she's been 'round this block a few times. It generally Does Not Go Well.]

It's no business of mine, of course. [kermitdrinkingtea.jpg] But while we're at it, maybe we should roll out the tea and frilly cakes for their arrival? Never do things by halves, I say.

b; just outside the walls, probably in a cornfield or something tbh crop circles incoming
[She's experimenting. For the sake of not stirring up a fuss, she's doing it in a field just outside the city walls, where hopefully no one will notice anything funny going on.

The magic still works, she'd already tried that, though it has a certain...feel...like the thing that lets her unravel the fabric of reality is further away than it's ever been in her life. So does the mark still work? And can she—if she's crazy enough to try it, which she's not entirely sure she is—use it to access the Fade and, subsequently, home?

The answer to that is, apparently, no. She's not sure whether to be disappointed or relieved.

It's a reckless experiment, but she's taking care not to attract any attention from either side of reality. She only opens small ones, like she does in a fight, not big enough to let anything through but still enough for that same relentless pull she's weaponized time and again. She's flattened half the wheat in a ten foot radius around her, golden grain stalks bent and broken inward toward a central rift.

She can open them, but what she finds is she can't pass through them. Well, she can—in fact, she walks right through one, feels the hair on the back of her neck stand on end and the hum of energy and hiss of things beyond around her—but she doesn't go anywhere. She comes out on the other side in the same field she started in. May as well not have been a rift there at all.

She plants her staff on the ground and leans on it, chewing the inside of her lip, puzzled.

Well, damn.

[She had not been far when she felt the change in the air. A buzzing that set her teeth on edge. Yorda had been exploring the wooded area around a wheat field, trying to follow the little deer trails through brambles and nettles.

The sounds were strange, like the crack of thunder ripping through the sky. There were strange harmonics to it, and a feeling of both familiar and alien. Something was opening. Turning on her heel, she scurried clumsily through the undergrowth to come see what the disturbance was.

Magic. It was magic. Magic that had opened the way between places.

She knew such a thing could be possible, but she had never expected to see it. Her own magic was similar, but it reacted on its own to seals and things that were hidden. Nothing of this scale.

When the woman emerged from the gaping green hole in the air, Yorda untangled her dress from a thorn bush and slowly approached.

She did not miss the ears. How similar to her own, she thought. Perhaps there was someone who was like her? Perhaps she was not so alone as she thought?]

How is it done?

[Rhiall sees her approaching out of the corner of her eye—just a girl, a barely-there wisp of a thing she watches until it's clear enough she means no harm, and then she relaxes by degrees.

Instinct reaches for the Herald of Andraste spiel, but...no one's heard the stories, or knows who she is here. Maybe she can leave the pretenses behind. She purses her lips and glances up at the rift—and with a snap of her wrist and clasped fingers, draws it shut, eliciting the all too common burst of momentary energy and the sharp crack that rends the air after. Like a lightning strike.
]

To tell you the truth, I could try and answer that question, but I'd only make a fool of myself. I'm not even sure how it works. I just... [And she waggles her fingers around the swiftly fading mark on her hand.] ...do this. Suddenly I'm tearing and mending holes in reality.

[She watches the girl a moment longer, then arches an eyebrow, tilting her head.] You're elven?

[She's seen an abundance of shapeshifters here, but as yet no elves. By this point she's used to it, but still...]

[She flinched visibly when the rift closed, but her timidity was overcome by sheer curiosity. Yorda studied the fading mark on Rhiall's hand, fascinated by the strange, green light.]

I don't know. ...Maybe? What is 'elven'? What path is your light opening? Does it break seals? Can it stop the shadows?

[So many questions. Never had she had the opportunity to speak with another person before, but here, here she could actually speak and be understood and nobody seemed to be trying to take her body as a vessel for their own soul or put her in a cage. It was a nice change, though she was still intent on finding Ico.]
