The kedan are not capable of speaking with Tu Vishan (or indeed, any of the world turtles if he were not the last) in their current state as altered by Eshai's magic. Likewise they can have only very limited psychic contact with the turtle hatchlings or they suffer what is in essence, a brain meltdown. (Literally. It will kill them.) Curiously, this doesn't seem to have stopped them from making the attempt, rather like lemmings. They even have a special term for it in their language. Certain kedan elders have been keeping track of this progress for the last several decades and will say that the number of attempts has risen sharply in the last 20 years or so.
One thing that keeps coming up in recount of this tale is something called "a shell sign" which the kedan will explain, is a brief flash of something that they get which prompts them to attempt this. Apparently some people can bring it on by spending large amounts of time below the surface of Tu Vishan's shell...
