(Because really, it's generally better if people aren't around when he's flinging fireballs.) But he's also known to get restless and just go wandering somewhere until he finds something interesting? Canon, that (it's how he met his wife).
...yeah, it may say something kind of sad about him that I'm not sure he hangs out anywhere. He works. A lot. /facepalms I guess sometimes he does take trips up to the turtle's head just to induce a little quiet in his head?
