That would be an easy option to persuade at least Bucky in the preferable-ness of disposing of the President. There are other options, too, of course.

Hmmm. At least one option I can see right off is for Bucky to talk with Shai, and possibly get himself arrested to try and get to Shai's parents, if they're still alive.

In the process, he can spread information (true, as far as he knows) that Malicant supporters use blood magic, and blood sacrifice, to strengthen Malicant's power/hold/w/e. So, assassinating the President by slitting his throat in what may seem like a rite would make more sense, if the locals are ignorant. They could... probably use framing somebody, too.

It can be made to work. But they have to be pretty good.
