We could handwave it/assume, write a bit of lead-up and just go 'AND THEN ALCUIN ROLLED ALL TWENTIES.' I can't guarantee 100 percent it'd work to the desired effect until we had a better grasp of how the thread would go, but I'm definitely willing to give it a try.
