He follows Thor as he tours the markets, the shops, chats up the merchants and makes himself as well liked here as he ever was in Asgard. It makes Loki seethe under his skin, and perhaps it's that radiating, permeating anger he gives off that finally clues Thor in to his location.
Sure enough, his bumbling idiot of a former brother finds his way to Loki's dark and lurk-worthy alley, and the fact that he even dares to call him that nearly has Loki frothing at the mouth in anger. He steps forth from the shadow, hands curled into tight fists at his sides, his gaze nothing short of murderous. ]
Somehow, I am not surprised. [ tch. ] What happened, Thor? Were you so consumed in your grief that you turned, and flung yourself from the Bifröst's edge to follow me in death?

Is what Thor wishes to say. Is what he had told himself for a long time, wanting to avoid the truth that perhaps Loki had not been everything that Thor had thought him to be.
Ever the tactile one, he reaches out to hold Loki by the back of the neck as he has always done. A familiar gesture, though most likely a foolish one, he thinks.]
I do not know what power has brought me here. I set myself to rest in my own chambers, and awoke in the palace of this Emperor. [But that is really, really not important right now.] How is it that you have come to be here? No matter where or how long I searched, I could find no trace of you.

But more important is the hand on his neck now, and save for a brief fleeting moment of longing, little changes in Loki's expression. Thor's hand doesn't rest there long, as Loki's own quickly moves up to push it away, near snarling at the fact that Thor dared to think it was something Loki wanted anymore. ]
I fell. [ he nearly spits the word, the memories unpleasant and present company leaving him bitter. ] Do you not remember?
no subject
He feels he has begun poorly.]
Things have not been the same since you left. All Asgard mourned the loss of it's prince, and I especially the loss of my brother.
[For a given value of 'all Asgard' and 'mourning' but technicalities are wasted on Thor. He mourned, and so Asgard mourned with him.]
no subject
"All" of Asgard.
[ Honestly, the thought is laughable. So Loki laughs. All of Asgard, Thor claims in front of him. He laughs, because his anger can only vent so many ways, the fact that Thor could be so thick-headed that he actually believes the words he says. Or worse, is trying to make Loki believe those words. ]
And you, Thor, are a terrible liar. [ he turns, begins to walk away. It's never a good idea to turn one's back on another god so wrought with emotion, but at this point, Loki no longer cares. ] Always have been, and always will be.
no subject
Then it is fortunate for the both of us that I would not lie to you.
no subject
[ It's just as well, he wasn't expecting anything to have changed between them. Thor is too stubborn. His index finger rubs circles against the pad of his thumb, testing, waiting for the moment one of them snaps and starts their usual brand of bickering. ]
no subject
Do not think that because our father lied to you that I do the same! [He raises his voice, hand instinctively moving to Mjolnir's handle.
It did hurt to lose Loki- more even than it hurt to fight him, or to discover that his brother was not the man he thought he was (his true parentage notwithstanding).
And it hurts now to see him mistrust him.]
You are my brother, what good would it serve me to lie about this?
no subject
[ With Thor's hand ready for battle, Loki takes the same precaution, sparks between his fingers flaring like his anger. He has only his knives and magic, and little do any good against the mighty Mjölnir, but he knows how to draw Thor in for close combat and a knife in the right spot will be the ticket out of this.
Because Loki really doesn't want to deal with this right now, never again. Thor's not supposed to be here. Damn him for unknowingly following him anyway. ]
You persist. You call me by title not my own, you think that the more you shout and bellow at me, the more inclined I will be to forgive all that has transpired.
It cannot go back to how it once was between us, it never will and yet here you are, still blind to all of it.
no subject
]
Then tell me what it is that I am blind to. You are correct- I do not understand why you believe that your lineage should change anything!
no subject
You will never understand. None of you ever will, were I even to shout it to all the Nine. And you least of all.
no subject
Are you so ready to throw away all of our childhood? Did it mean so little to you that you will eagerly take any opportunity to cut the bonds of family and brotherhood?
no subject
Little more than memory. Glimpses into a past best forgotten. Waste of space.
no subject
Thor's anger has rendered him nearly wordless with rage. That he has no one to express his rage against only makes him angrier.]
I do not believe, brother, that I am the only one lying to himself.
no subject
But you admit to it all the same.
no subject
I will not give up the hope of seeing our family reconciled.
no subject
As stubborn as you ever have been.
no subject
I have never claimed to be anything other than what I am.
no subject
A bit of a stretch, that. But- stubborn, yes, without a doubt.
no subject
And you have ever been full of guile, with ten plans hidden in reserve- we are neither of us perfect sons or princes. But that has never troubled you in the past.
no subject
You claim to care so much, yet you truly know so little about me.
