So that's our outline for the month of December! If you have any questions about these happenings, please use the Questions comment below. Otherwise, this post is free space for monthly OOC plotting.
Here's what we've got lined up for December:
Weather
Foggy. While there's no snow to be seen this month, the temperatures are cold, and the damp is oppressive. Thanks to the turtle’s grounding on an undersea shelf and the unique climate around Tavimbi, the whole of December is cold and dank, the fog thick enough to make open sunlight a rarity. It’s thickest in areas without much airflow, like Keeliai’s narrow streets, but in places like the wide boulevards it lifts somewhat; still, visibility won’t get any further than a few dozen feet inside the city.
The fog goes high, so not even going to the top of Metal Sector’s tallest buildings gets over the fogbank. It’s clearest outside the city, where there’s greater airflow over the turtle’s shell, but once on the ocean the combined influences of salt in the fog and the salt in the ocean make it impossible to use magic or high-tech devices.

Kedan/Foreigner Relations
Despite the turtle’s running aground, the kedan are in high spirits for the first part of the month. Although those spirits will be dampened the longer the fog lingers, the appreciation toward the Foreigners won’t change; the whole month, it will be common to have random kedan congratulating the Foreigners on their feat.
Oddly enough, it isn’t the show of power required to move the turtle which impresses the kedan the most, but the teamwork it took to make the plan happen.
The fog will have its effect, however; although not everyone stays indoors and many kedan in the city are determined to go about their business, foot traffic and outdoors events suffer a decline.

Local Events
RAINBOW SPARKLERS
HAPPY ANNIVERSARIES
Although the unique salt content in the fog is causing problems with magic and technology, some enterprising young researcher at the college has discovered a purely chemical reaction which turns the fog different colours.
As a result the College, as a donation drive, will be selling special sparklers all month. When lit in the presence of the fog these cause the fog around the sparklers to change colour, in addition to all the standard benefits of ordinary sparklers. The colours can last in the fog for up to an hour after the sparklers have burned out. Interestingly enough, the sparklers also seem to burn off the salt’s effects -- but this only lasts as long as a sparkler is lit, and the benefits aren’t much. A staticky radio nearby might come through clearer, for instance, or a low-level use of magic may come through nearly as easily as usual.
The sparklers are sold in packs of five, but all the same colour, necessitating more than one purchase for truly rainbow-coloured ‘fog paintings’.
Log Note:The rainbow sparklers will not have a mod-posted event log.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARIES
The close of the year brings two anniversaries to the forefront: two years ago, Malicant was defeated, and a year after that, the Foreigners successfully returned to Keeliai after escaping their stint in the Dreaming. In addition, the kedan are hallmarking this time of year as recognition of when they first recovered their full capabilities, shaking off the torpor that had gripped them for so long.
There are general plans being made to celebrate -- or at least, publicly acknowledge -- all of these beginning around the middle of the month, and simple preparations are being made. If asked, the kedan will admit they're not averse to winging the actual festivities, given everything that's going on, but they feel it's important to mark.
Log Note: The anniversary celebrations will have a mod-posted event log, which will be put up around mid-month.

NPCs & Families
Communication between the major families has tapered off somewhat, though that could be a result of the climate; it’s very difficult to want to leave the warmth of houses, these days.
TU YUNXU
ZANRU/XUIYU
HEOJIN
MILYN
AROYAN
TU YUNXU
The tentative diplomatic immunity the Foreigners have been enjoying for the last few months continues, though it’s been going on long enough to be less ‘tentative’ and more ‘maybe Yunxu’s actually serious about this’. The persistence of the fog is putting more Snakes on the streets, not less, though their efficiency doesn’t seem to increase along with their numbers.
Yunxu, however, doesn’t leave his mansion. Nor does Meisheng, but since no one’s seen much of Meisheng for several months, that hardly seems worth noting.

ZANRU/XUIYU
The Metalworkers are, to a woman, grumpy as hell. Although initially on a high due to the success of the turtle moving and their contribution to it, the ongoing fog is wreaking havoc on their projects. There’s been some success with shielding technology from the effects of the salt, but since this requires a completely quarantined room it’s too much expense to do for everything.
Xuiyu in particular is showing the grumps, and woe to anyone who even thinks about tinkering with the consoles. They seem to be unaffected by the salt so far, but Xuiyu is concerned for their ongoing health should the salt get into the consoles to infect the gel.

HEOJIN
Initially the Woodsmen are also very grumpy. The persistent chill in the fog is making it difficult to reseed their fields, and it dampens sound and makes their labour more dangerous. No one who goes outside the city does so alone -- or does so at their own risk. For this reason, even the Woodsmen are keeping close to the city.
Later in the month the Woodsmen’s spirits lift at the discovery that the fog has some positive effects on very specific crops kept inside the greenhouses -- made by chance by an apprentice accidentally leaving a greenhouse door open. They’ve also discovered that the salt has some good qualities for food preservation.
For the most part the senior Woodsmen are focussed on protecting the soil and their crops, and aren’t terribly visible. That being said, Heojin is making the effort to personally accompany some of the merchants, to make himself somewhat visible in the city.

MILYN
Milyn seems unconscionably cheerful this month, even moreso than her usual mien, but a discerning observer may note that more than a few times, it seems almost forced. It's like she's genuinely happy... but is also trying not to be dragged down by something. Her apothecary is a high-traffic area this month, with the damp chill causing more than a few severe colds and coughs, and many are seeking her herbal remedies as much as her medical expertise. Equally attentive folk might also notice that throughout the month, the Cherrywood Healer can be found making notations on the Foreigners, observing them in their day to day habits. If asked about it, she'll just give a funny little smile and say that she's making plans.
AROYAN
In order to best facilitate everyone working towards the common goal of getting Tu Vishan safely moored, Aroyan has called for a halt on all ownership changes, particularly of new properties, until the turtle is safely to Tavimbi. This won't affect anyone who'd previously made arrangements with him from before the initial move. Those familiar with the concept will probably be able to liken the move to that of freezing a stock market, preventing anyone from taking advantage of the turtle's current state to try and profit unfairly.
That does mean, however, that what normally occupies his time is at a bare minimum for the month, and Aroyan can be found in many of the places Foreigners frequent. If they'll indulge him, he has a great deal of questions about their worlds -- primarily about business practices, but also about politics and government, historical empires, and oddly, exploration. It seems his interests run quite the gamut of topics!

Economy
Economy is on a downturn in December, thanks to the fog restricting activity. The College is about the only institution that’s prospering, and they’re taking full advantage of the fog. Some enterprising sellers have been harvesting salt from the fog and selling it, not always to the College or to researchers -- some fearless (or reckless) kedan are ingesting it in various fashions to see the effects.
Fresh produce is available early in the month but this subsides and most produce after that has been preserved in some fashion. There are some experiments with preservation using the salt, with some side-effects until the Merchants’ Guild cracks down on the sale of such produce without warning the customer just how it was preserved. Luckily, these side-effects are mild -- for the moment -- and usually consist of an inability to shapeshift or use magic, or the victim’s touch shorting out technology at a touch.

Crime
Crime sees a healthy rise this month - or an unhealthy rise, as the case may be. The earthquake caused by Asti running aground on the underwater reef compromised the structural integrity of several buildings, and petty thieves are taking full advantage of both that and the heavy fog in the city. Break-ins and robberies are high. Of course, the heavy fog in the city is also keeping many kedan indoors, so a large percentage of those break-ins end either unsuccessfully, or with bodily assault. The various clinics in the city, particularly the Healer’s Guild, are left to deal with the aftermath.
Of particular relevance to Foreigners is the spate of break-ins in Sky Sector, especially in the housing set aside for the Foreigners. While no one ever seems to run across the thieves themselves, evidence of their passing is everywhere, from missing personal possessions to broken windows and locks. About halfway through the month, however, the robberies stop cold turkey, and during the week of Christmas several of the merchants situated nearest the Snakes’ mansion begin selling the stolen possessions. ‘A gift from the Snakes’, they say when pressed.

Technology
Progress is halted this month, primarily due to the scramble to protect technology from the effects of the fog. The Stark Industries and its holdings are focused on overcoming these effects, with the result that most of their projects have been halted until they can be continued without that interference; at least, the ones which rely on advanced technology.
Similarly, most construction and labour has been halted -- the fog is thick enough that it’s simply too dangerous to work in it. Some labourers suffered some injuries before this was decided, but none of them were life-threatening. An exception has been made for works deemed necessary to repair the damage from the earthquake, or to improve important structures, but these works progress slower than usual to account for the workers’ safety.
The College, in contrast, is thriving. This is an opportunity to study the Angbur Shoal, not to mention the effects of the fog itself, and the researchers are taking full advantage by testing that steampunk submarine from last month. (It’s run into some issues; primarily the fact that although the fog makes for an excellent power source, the resulting steam has the side-effect of causing headaches, dizziness, and severe coughing.)
They’re also studying the salt itself, of course, though some researchers are progressing at a wild pace which overtakes some other important aspects -- like safety measures. As a result the Merchants’ Guild have had friendly conversations with one or two researchers at the College, in the name of health safety for consumables.

STATE OF THE SHELL & GAME HMD
We're ironing out the last details and wording, but please look forward to a State of the Shell to be posted within the next two weeks (probably sooner). At the same time, we're going to encourage players to use that as a game HMD, and let us know how you feel the last year has gone since the official reboot.
