GAME ITINERARY | JUNE 2015

Hello chelonauts, here is a fresh new itinerary post! Previous months can be found under this tag.

Here's what we've got lined up for June:

Weather

As the turtle gets closer to Zeshora, the rain and clouds will ease off into balmier weather, with sun and saltier breezes. The breezes will be constant, occasionally becoming winds comparable to those on a beach. Occasionally there might be very slight -- fairly negligible -- shakes in the shell, the result of the turtle's underside scraping on the reefs of Zeshora, as the water gets steadily shallower (for a continent-sized turtle, at least).

Kedan/Foreigner Relations

The kedan perception of the Foreigners following the Public Forum ranges between mild uncertainty to coolness. They don't blame the Foreigners for the spate of muggings in the city, and indeed they understand that they've been more of a target for these muggings than the kedan have. Yet at the same time, soul gems were a distinctly Foreigner thing before, and now that a few of their fellow kedan have them, there are some mutterings that they wouldn't have this problem if the Foreigners weren't present.

The biggest point of contention is that they're disappointed in the distinct lack of Foreigner assistance offered to said victimized kedan, despite their requests that they stay with companions to help them understand the soul gems. With the majority of them having been remanded back to their Family or sponsored protection, Foreigners are currently being perceived as only looking out for themselves, and ready to drop kedanese interests the moment it becomes inconvenient to them.

A lesser grievance with some kedan is that they seem to have gotten it into their heads that the recent deaths due to the zhyris virus could have possibly been avoided.

Local Events

YARD SALE - June 3rd-7th

A few tenured Foreigners might remember the last instance of a city-wide yard sale from three years prior, but to most, this will be new. In an effort to raise spirits, capitalize on the near-perfect weather, and just make a few spare juulan, the kedan are turning the city into a maze of hastily erected stalls and tables, where everything from kitschy handcrafts to illicit illustrations, to nebulous inventions that may or may not actually do anything, are being sold. In a way, it's a little bit of clearing the air between kedanese neighbours. Despite the currently cool view on the Foreigners by the kedan, they'll be able to get fair prices and full selection all across the city for the Yard Sale, and they'll be just as encouraged to set up a spot and sell something of their own, even if it's simple. It's the spirit of the thing, after all.

During this event, characters will have the good fortune of coming across a possession of theirs, each tagged with a simple white tag bearing a hand-inked symbol of a stylized feather. These items can be found anywhere in the city, although they'll always turn up in places where they can be merely picked up -- that is, they're not in kedan possession, and they won't need to be bought (although they might need to be squabbled over, if a kedan spots it at the same time and it looks valuable). If asked about the symbol, the general consensus is that it's from the Xaxosi legend, which was recounted during the Ni Zhihuan festival. They won't be able to offer any reasoning as to why the items would show up tagged with such a signature, nor who would have cause to use it.

Log Note: The yard sale will have a mod-posted event log.

ZHYRIS OUTBREAK - ONGOING

Unfortunately, the yard sale has one unintended consequence: it worsens the outbreak of zhyris. Having not had enough Foreigners volunteering to donate blood over the last two months, Milyn was unable to synthesize a better vaccine for the virus, and a number of kedan (mostly elderly, but a few toddler-aged children) have already died from its effects. At present, the death toll stands around 20 kedan, and Milyn has put out an official notice in her capacity as Cherrywood Healer, urging those who display any of the symptoms to report to the Healer's Guild where they can be quarantined for treatment, until their infectious stage has passed. She's even offering repayment of wages out of her own pocket, if people are concerned about missing work while they're infected, in case that deters some people from making the decision to ignore the symptoms.

Zhyris is most communicable through the contact with infectious tissue, which bears a telltale rash that shows up as splotchy yellow patches, and which persists even through shapeshifting. In fact, kedan are highly encouraged not to shapeshift at all, if they suspect that they made have contracted the virus, as the biochemical changes in their genetics aggravates the virus, making it more dangerous.

Log Note: Zhyris-related things will not have a mod-posted event log.

ZESHORA LANDFALL - June 17th - July 8th

Tu Vishan has drifted upon ocean currents to the continent of Zeshora, and the tides have deposited him in a natural harbour near the southwestern edge. The current generations of kedan can offer little in the way of description regarding the continent, which is actually a series of islands due to a major cataclysm that sank the majority of the landmass. The kedan can't recall precisely when Tu Vishan was last in these waters, although they vaguely recall it being during the last batch of Foreigners, which would place that landfall around three hundred years ago.

In fact, the thing about Zeshora that the kedan seem to most frequently know is a bawdy drinking song, which goes into fairly creative detail about a seamaid's curvatures. Ironically, it's sung from a female singer's perspective, and male kedan will get a little flustered if they're the ones singing it.

Zeshora's people are natively called the Erol'a, are rumored to be very hospitable, and the kedan seem eager to engage them. It's known to be a remarkably prosperous civilization, despite the sinking of a large portion of its cities centuries ago. This is attributed to the Erol'a's skillful attention to minute details, and they are Konryu's foremost masters of jewelry craftsmanship, especially with a type of deepsea glass. (Quite a few soon-to-be engaged kedan have unsubtly hinted that a deepsea glass ring would be very much appreciated.)

Log Note: The landfall will have a mod-posted event log. Full details about the landfall, both IC and OOC and pictures will be done in the log post.

NPCs & Families

This month the NPCs seem to be more concerned with their individual interests than with each other's actions.

TU YUNXU
Publicly, Yunxu and the Snakes haven't changed any of their views or attitudes from last month - they're still working on tracking down whoever's responsible for the muggings and trying to learn more about where the Chihuelans are hiding.

Beneath the surface, Yunxu is furious. He still hasn't been able to get his hands on Jintou (Xion's mugger and a renounced Snake) due to Aqua putting him under witness protection in the Foreigners' Hotel. On top of that, Akito and Anton have been working together with Meisheng to bargain for the release of the sole surviving Chihuelan prisoner. Yunxu is angry with each and every involved Foreigner, and he's presumably angry with Meisheng as well, though they seem as close as ever in public.

Meisheng, for her part, still hasn't been shapeshifting, and she's withdrawn almost completely from her regular duties. Many of the Snakes are starting to wonder if Yunxu is actually poisoning her.

ZANRU
Now that Zanru's motives are out, all gloves seem to have come off. The Foreigners she's hired still have jobs and won't be unfairly singled-out, but it's clear that Zanru's determined to take care of Daseng without their interference. Any question that she might not have the right for 'dibs' will be met with alternately cold dismissal or explosive ranting.

Most of the time Zanru can be found arguing with workers and investors about the sewerage plans, usually with Xuiyu by her side. Rumour has it, in fact, that Zanru is even starting to neglect some duties in favour of her vendetta, and that Xuiyu is covering for her, but anyone who asks Xuiyu about it will just get a flat stare and an equally flat "Working on it".

Either way, tensions are high among the Metalworkers; but for all that tension none of the employees are genuinely worried about losing their jobs. Whatever is happening internally, they're quick to assure anyone who asks, the Metalworkers have always honoured contracts. So far, their faith is holding true.

HEOJIN
Heojin is quiet this month, and a bit distant, almost as difficult to contact as he was when the Foreigners first made their return to Keeliai. There is a rumour that he's ill, although the zhyris virus has been rare among the Woodsmen thanks to their relative isolation from the rest of the city.

It's due to the virus that the Woodsmen will be more isolationist again this month, as much a matter of protecting their community from this new illness as anything else.

Ran is still organising the scouting parties in the wilds, but fewer of them this month and with a greater range of responsibilities; they've been hired to map the new shorelines, for one, to try and get more accurate data on the rate of sinking. Lin is also still present in the city, still looking worried and drawn, but more prone to not speaking at all except to the soul-gemmed kedan under the Woodsmen's care.

MILYN
Whatever was afflicting Milyn's health during the Public Forum seems to have cleared up, although her little stoppered bottle of mystery liquid never strays far from her. She's a little more subdued toward the Foreigners this month, as a few less than tasteful encounters has managed to dampen even her formerly inexhaustible goodwill towards them. While she'll still agree to admit any that come to see her in person with a few exceptions, it's clear that something's troubling her. Superficially, she'll defer any concerns to busyness of treating the zhyris-- which is valid, but doesn't fully explain why she seems upset a good deal of the time. Jilay continues to sometimes accompany her, and he's certainly more talkative than the Healer is.

AROYAN
With the city booming, the man seems extraordinarily in his element. He's busy every single day, regularly taking meetings even in the small hours of the morning in order to speak with those who need the Merchant's Guild input or support. Despite this, he is always ready to engage with a smile, especially the Foreigners, who he has cited on more than one occasion, "their juulan is just as round as anyone else's!" which even the most sour kedan can't argue with. He's constantly in good spirits, and seems to be doling out more than the occasional favour, such as "accidentally" lowering the price of a rental agreement and then claiming that he has to honour the error, or claiming that the Guild has "misplaced" some debts belonging to kedan families who are struggling financially.

With the Sky Sector's commercial district filling at a steady rate, the word on the street is not to wait too long to approach Aroyan with business propositions, before space fills up or, worse, something derails his good candor.

Economy

The city's economy is on a distinct upswing this month, despite the various issues going on. A combination of many kedan taking the time to evaluate their standings, and some who've just plain thrown caution to the wind, purchases and investments are way up. To that end, the Merchant's Guild couldn't be happier. The Sky Sector, of course, sees the bulk of this surge, although the Fire and Earth Sectors see significant gains as well. Now that there seems to be little chance of inclement weather deterring them, housing and construction moves into high gear, with a focus on expansion and additions. It isn't unusual for a section of a street to be blocked off as major renovations on buildings are undertaken, both interior and exterior.

With the bulk of skilled labourers freed from their contracts setting up the Sky Sector, there are a pair of new buildings that could (sort of) be described as high-rises in the Earth Sector, but near the border with Central. It's a little bit of an experiment, and the style doesn't match any of the Sectors… it's surprisingly modern, although it lacks the sleek aesthetics of the Metal Sector. Rumour has it that they're constructing them for the purposes of College residences, as if in expectation of a higher than normal enrollment in the coming months.

Crime

Surprisingly, the criminals are either not taking advantage of the surge of new prosperity in the city, or they're just covering their tracks very well. Aside from a smattering of break-ins and street crime, both of which indicate crimes of opportunity rather than premeditated capers, the biggest illegal business this month is drug trafficking -- and even that's one on the down-low, as if those peddling their illicit substances are wary of getting caught by overzealous vigilantes -- either Foreigner or kedan -- and being blamed for the drug-related aspects of the soul gem muggings.

The two biggest drugs on the Keeliai scene are Dust, which from street dealers is not the same highly-refined version as the cultists seem to possess, and the emotion-altering drug Lucid, also called Crystal, which is on an aggressive rise. For one, Dust users don't tend to live that long and second, Lucid's effects are much more customizable.

Technology

This month technology is a bit all over the place. The tram-line is proceeding with gusto and the service around the city's outskirts is now fully operational and connected with both Metal and Fire Sectors. Lines into the other sectors are proceeding apace, including Sky Sector, and if the weather holds some may even be ready for use by the end of the month.

The radio stations have been properly established and tested, and although connections are still a bit spotty they're clearly a success -- notwithstanding the unexpected flooding issues from last month. This means too that Stark Industries' contract for the radio stations has officially ended, but Zanru -- through Xuiyu -- will nevertheless encourage any Foreigners involved in the contract to come to them about other contracts or more permanent work. The only exception is that Zanru will refuse to let any Foreigners work on the sewerage lines.

Of more concern is the trouble around the sewers. Now it's become clear just why Zanru is so intent on revolutionising the sewerage system, many of the workers are going on strike or refusing to risk going into the sewers, even with hazard pay. The mapping and planning of the sewers has therefore stalled while all stakeholders negotiate. Some of those stakeholders have jumped ship entirely, putting their finances behind the College and its intended facilities in Sky Sector.

Finally, there's some rumours on the street of a new weapon in development, but no one at Stark Industries will know anything about it -- the rumours appear to be arising from the Snakes or from gang-members, and either way, it's a source of some bitterness.

International

EMISSARIES

The Bresilykian ambassadors appear to have closed ranks, which was evident at the Courtyard Forum and continues into June, as if something in the last month has put them off interacting with kedan and Foreigners alike. While they'll still take requests for meetings with both parties, they'll no longer agree to meet individually; Azehaiss accompanies each meeting, regardless of whether he's requested or not. When landfall at Zeshora becomes imminent, overheard conversations between them allude to them seriously discussing disembarking Tu Vishan permanently, the capital's orders be damned.

Eiryam seems aggressively defensive of his fellow emissaries this month, a stark departure from his normally lighthearted cheer. Ingsthya is rarely seen, which is unusual given her position as a representative of commerce during this peak in economic strength for Keeliai. Khayleof frets frequently about the other four, and is the most anxious of the bunch to depart Keeliai. Nandzinra is the only one of the group who doesn't seem bothered by the goings-on, and is ambivalent toward both kedan and the Foreigners. Azehaiss continues pursuing information on the Chihuelans, paying special attention to recounts of the invasion force from a year ago, and doesn't seem to care that he might be making enemies by prying into what is a fairly sensitive subject for the kedan.

The emissaries will be available for logs if characters wish to address a specific topic with them. If you'd like an emissary thread, please send a PM to the [personal profile] ironwood journal with the name of the NPC you're looking, plus a sentence or two regarding what your character wants to talk to them about, and a link to a log starter. For mod sanity time constraints, we respectfully ask that players limit requests to one NPC at a time.

OOC Information

SOUL GEM MUGGING SIGNUPS (JUNE)

This is the last month for randomized muggings, however in the interest of fairness, we ask that players with multiple characters on their roster limit to one character per month. Due to the massive interest we've been having in this plot, we're capping sign-ups to ten characters. If we have more than 10 signups, characters will be randomly chosen via RNG.

If you're interested in having your character be attacked for their soul jewelry, comment here with their name and journal. The mods will respond with a brief, randomized scenario describing the mugging -- including the attack's success or failure -- and then each player can decide when during the month it takes place.

To sign up for June's muggings, please comment HERE with your character name, journal, and your preferred contact. Signups for this month will close on Friday, June 5th at 9PM EST.

METAPLOT MYSTERY
Toward the end of this month, we will be having a metaplot development, for which we need seven eight character volunteers. (That's all the info you're going to get, sorry!)

To sign up for this, please comment with your character name, journal, and your preferred contact. Signups for this month will close on Friday, June 5th at 9PM EST. If we have more than required signups, characters will be randomly chosen via RNG.

Please note you cannot sign up for both June's muggings and this metaplot development; one or the other only.

So that's our outline for the month of June! If you have any questions about these happenings, please use the Questions comment below. Otherwise, this post is free space for monthly OOC plotting.
